Olena, Global Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Science & Technology trainee
I’ve grown a lot on the STEP program. It is a result of exposure to hundreds of highly intelligent and extremely motivated professionals. That’s been my experience at each location I’ve worked at – so far that includes Holzkirchen in Germany, Melville and Hicksville in the US, and Unterach in Austria. Growth is an integral part of the Sandoz/Novartis culture – people development and knowledge sharing are key here. The development opportunities are unlimited and I’m trying to experience and absorb as much as possible while working in different departments, countries and even continents. There’s a dedicated Novartis Knowledge Centre, online conferences with experts, mentoring at work, training, special events on site, as well as 1:1s with experts and managers... By enabling you to work and network in such a diverse and inclusive international environment, STEP empowers you to constantly improve.
I’m helping to reimagine medicine by bringing fresh perspectives. The international exposure within STEP allowing trainees like me to see how similar things are done at different facilities as well as to understand the specifics of different cultural and regulatory environments. This is enabling me to share my observations in terms of best practice, and to help establish a dialogue between colleagues from different sites and departments. The more we improve our processes, the better placed we’ll be to deliver high quality medicines at affordable prices to our patients. This is our shared goal.
Right now, I’m at a facility that’s producing Oncology Injectables – very critical medications. The life of a patient can literally depend whether or not these medicines are delivered on time. Moreover, as part of the Quality Unit team, I’m helping to ensure that our products are safe, effective and of the highest quality. This is what our patients expect, each and every one of them. The impact of our work was brought home to me when a colleague’s young daughter was successfully treated against leukemia with our medicines. By delivering good work and making the right decisions, every associate can have a significant and real impact on the lives of our patients, and sometimes their loved ones are closer to you than you might think.
